From 2004 until 2006, the Porsche Carrera GT was manufactured in Germany, producing 1,270 of these 2-door roadster sports cars. Only 604 of those were sold in the United States for approximately half a million dollars before Porsche discontinued this line due to changes in the airbag laws.
The Westfield Megabusa is made in Britain by Westfield Sportscars. This little sports car is only 131” long and 63” wide. It has an open top with a cage roof for crash protection and it is also equipped with anti-roll bars. Although designed as a track bar, this car is legally able to be driven on the street, provided you can get car insurance for it.
The Porsche 911 GT1 is the street version of the race car that was designed for racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It has a light curb weight of only 2,094 to 2,758 pounds but had to have the engine detuned in order to pass for the street legal version. Even so, the Porsche 911 GT1 can achieve 0-60 in 3.5 with a maximum speed of 235 mph.
Assembled in Germany, the Porsche has been manufactured since 1963. The Porsche 911 Turbo, known in the United States as the Porsche 930, was in production from 1975 until 1989. It is known for its large rear spoiler and wide wheel arches. In the beginning it was equipped with a 3.0L engine and by the time production ceased it had a 3.3L engine.
Frank Stephenson from McLaren Automotive designed the McLaren MP4-12C, which is expected to enter production in 2011. The 2-seat coupe will have a suggested selling price of around $200,000. Equipped with a twin turbo 3.8L V8 engine and a 7 speed dual clutch transmission, this carbon fiber sports car is intended for speed.
